Mel's discomfort is not lost on Evan, who's frankly been on alert for it. But he also recognizes the effort the elf is putting in to being okay with it, and Evan is not entirely the flighty thing he once was. He doesn't call Mel out on it.
"They do -- or, they can. Well, my father's just human, more or less, and my mother looks pretty flawlessly human most days... but that's not quite how I meant it." He grins, offering the first bit of good news he's been able to. "Aside from their day jobs, they're both involved in an organization that... that offers integration help for, well, nonhumans who want to integrate. I mean, things like passports, documents, and in some cases, sourcing charms to hide... unusual features." He glances down briefly, at his own hands, rather than risk accidentally looking at Mel's ears. He doesn't like the dissonance, calling anything about his friend unusual enough to hide. "It's what I do for my eye, the one that Laedo gave me, I mean."
He looks up again, catching Meallan's gaze, suspecting he'll want to take a look. Rather than the iridescent amber that Laedo had granted his replacement eye, both of Evan's eyes are back to being the warm brown he was born with. "With any luck, they'll be able to offer a solution."
