"It's not your fault," Meallan says quietly, as much a reminder to himself as an acceptance of what Evan is saying. He hates the idea of hiding, it chafes against the pride that all of his people have for being elvhen, why they wear their vallaslin so openly and dare others to judge them for it.
But this isn't Thedas, and the stakes may be higher than simply making life difficult for him. In Thedas there might be the risk of some humans attacking and killing a lone Dalish elf for whatever reason, but they would be unlikely to then try to seek out and slay the clan entirely. Not without far more provocation than simply existing. Here getting discovered might lead to Evan being found out as well, perhaps even his family and others in turn, and whatever fate would befall them then.
Meallan could bear hiding who he was if it was to avoid bringing danger to his friend and the others of this world surely.
He exhales slowly and gives Evan a soft smile, doing his best to accept the other man's words. "No, you didn't. I assumed they both looked human?"
