The brush of contact... that sends hairs up his back to standing, and not in a way that Evan objects to. He takes a deep breath as they settle into a sit facing one another.
There's a mercy in the way that Mel's serious question brings him back to the present, and Evan grimaces for the sake of the dry joke. "I don't know, you make a pretty convincing cosplayer," he shoots back, even knowing Mel won't understand the term yet. He shakes his head and goes on instead. "Yeah, I mean... you're right. We're going to have to disguise... well, what you are." He grimaces again, this time more anxiously. "I'm sorry. I know it sucks. This world isn't... I mean, we've got our issues."
He makes a fluttery gesture, apologetic and concerned. "But I mean, in a way we're lucky. I never told you what my parents do, did I?"
