The dorm room has the kind of half-neglected mess that every dorm room ever has sported. There are two beds, one on either side of the room, and two desks along the wall opposite to them. Two dressers have been pulled to the end of the room with the door out to the hallway, tall wooden things, and aside from the door they've entered through there's one more proper door just adjacent to them, and one sliding closet door on the far end of the room. A pair of windows takes up the far end of the room, curtains drawn back to let the October sunlight in, and trees decked out in bright red and orange and yellow leaves can be seen just below their vantage point. One of the beds is messier than the other, mostly unmade, and similarly one desk is cluttered. The other, while not spotless, looks rather tidier by comparison. With the mess the place seems a touch cramped, but it's not a tiny space, and there are nods to personalization in the posters on the walls (old movies, mostly) and the colors of the bedding.
Evan heads to this second desk, across from the bed closest to the window. "Hardly magic, except in the facetious sense," he lets Mel know, briefly wry. That's easier, cover up his brief embarrassment. He flicks open a very slim laptop, flashes a grin at Mel. "Computer sciences, double majoring in Networks and Security and Theoretical CS. I honestly know a lot of the networks stuff already, the double major sounds worse than it is..." He trails off; Mel's not one to banter about computers to, not without some serious primers. "It's pretty esoteric. Same general kind of thing as the jewellery network with the Audentes, although the purview is much wider. Computers form most of the information infrastructure on Earth."
He sighs, sits on his bed, looks to Mel to come join him. "And nobody. nobody here knows about magic." There's apology in his voice as he says that, and emphasis.
