Ultimately he decides on the stairs and he beckons Mel to follow him down the less populated arm of the residence hall, avoiding entirely the busy front doors. "This way. Um, we're going up to my room here, we should have it to ourselves for a little while yet."
He pushes the heavy stair door open and ushers Mel through, trotting along beside him on the stairs. They're almost always eschewed for the elevators, and he's hoping that luck holds.
